Question 2

Alice- right know Alice is really the only character in the book. There has been two others but I haven’t read to much into it to realize what’s there deal or story. So Alice’s life has been peaty boring until recently when she came across a rabbits hole, she then went down the whole and ended up in a hall. She loves animals especially her cat Dina. She’s a smart young lady who came or is from England.

Write down your thoughts--after reading the opening chapter(s) of the book. How do your impressions change (or do they) after reading half the book? Do you feel any differently after finishing the book? Would you read the book again?

Well so far it’s a little confusing and they do a lot of then she was there and then there kind of stuff. We have been introduced to a couple of new characters such as the caterpillar the white rabbit and Alice. They have mentioned other characters such as- Alice’s family, but have not gone into detail so can’t tell to much into them. But I can talk about the caterpillar, white rabbit and Alice. The caterpillar has a little bit of an anger manage mint problem, he dose help Alice but sometime yells at her when she dose or says something wrong. He always has to be in control. The white rabbit is always yelling out “the queen, the queen” he talk about how he’ll get a beating or his head cut off by her if he doesn’t get there in time. So with that information I gather he is a slave of the queen or is just a people pleaser. Alice on the other hand is very curious and sometime says the wrong things or dose them. Will her big mouth get her into trouble? Only time will tell.

What emotions did the book invoke: laughter, tears, smiles, anger? Or, was the book just boring and meaningless? Record some of your reactions.
So far there has been some confusion in it but I have found it to be more funny than boring. I am know at the tea party and when it explained it I did get a little confused then but know that Alice has come it is clever and funny and understanding. I’m a little confused at duchess and the queen. So far I think that the duchess is the white witch and the queen is the red one. Also the duchess has a pet cat that smiles and can disappear in one second. This cat directs Alice to the mad tea party. And that as far I have read today.

Sometimes books touch you, reminding you of your own life, as part of the larger human experience. Are there connections between the book and your own life? Or, does the book remind you of an event (or events) that happened to someone you know? Does the book remind you of what happened in another book you've read?
Well her being curious reminds me of myself at a young age and her always having to be right is well a little me. But I have good intensions just like Alice. Another good similarity is the relationship she has with people they often boss her or judge her, to a point where she either gets mad or starts to cry I know that I do that. I am not saying that me an her are alike, there is many things about us that are different. Such as she always is thinking of how dumb her friends are. And she also puts up and listen to rude people Also I think that she is a little selfish witch I am not. As it reminding me of another book? Well yes it dose through the looking glass. Is told through someone’s else’s view but a curious girl dose end up in wonderland. Different things happen but some the same. For instance the red queen and the red queen, but humpty dumpty and the magical flowers where not in Alice in wonderland. This book also reminds me of peter pan. Because some children go off to another place where things are different. And buy the end everything goes wrong so they end up learning that things that seem good end up bad in the end.

Would you like to be one of the characters (acquire a personality trait)? Which of the characters would you become, if you could? Why? If there's something about the character that you'd want to change, what is it?

I would like to be Alice of cores but she did get herself into trouble even though she doesn’t think so I think it will turn out bad. I would like to change her corosity a little bit because she gets her self into trouble that way.

If you were the author, would you have changed the name of a character, or altered the location of a scene? What does the name mean to you? Do you have a negative connotation associated with the name (or the place)? What would you name the character instead? What would you use as a setting?

Well the name of the Mad hatter is well odd for his character. Yes a lot of people would disagree. Considering that he was Mad meaning crazy. But if you ever tried to describe a emotion as Mad people would think mad as in up set or that it meant anger. But if you called him Crazy Hatter well that just makes no sense. If I got the chance to change his name I think it would be the mad hatter I goes I wouldn’t change it even if I had to, because its his name, and I can’t change that, not for anyone.

Does the book leave you with questions you would like to ask? What are they? Would you like to direct your questions at a particular character? What questions would you like to ask the author of the book? Are they questions that you may be able to answer by reading more about the author's life and/or works?

Yes I do have a couple of questions. Why was the cook in the kitchen chucking stuff at the duchess while she was nursing a baby? I would like to direct this question at the duchess. Because maybe she knows why he is mad at her or if he’s just rude. If I asked him he would probably just laugh or say none of your business. If I had to ask the author a question then it would be: where did you get the inspiration for this book?

Are you confused about what happened (or didn't happen) in the book? What events or characters do you not understand? Does the use of language in the book confuse you? How did your confusion affect how you liked the book? Is there anything that the author could have done to make what happened (or didn't happen) more clear?

Well this is my last question because I finished the book. It was good and it didn’t leave any questions or being concussed everything was resolved I also learned who the red queen was and the white. I also learned that Walt Disney mixed Alice’s adventures in wonderland with through the looking glass. Witch is the same story only different events. all in all it was a good book.

Why did I choose this book? Well with the new movie coming out (Alice in wonderland) and I have very little knowledge of Alice in wonderland. For instance there is apparently 2 witches one being the white witch and the other being the red. In the Disney one there is no witches there is only a red queen. I also tried to better understand the new movie by asking my parents. They have both read the book and understand it. But for them it was along time ago, so when I asked my dad who the white witch was, he replied, “ um... The good one” like that’ll help. When I asked my mom she told me “ she gives Alice the cookie”? yea sure that makes sense. Back to why I chose this book. I figured if I really wanted to know about this book I should just read it and find out.
Has it met your standers? I have only read the first three chapters give or take some pages. But so far has been good, I haven’t figured out who and what the white witch is and what she dose. But I have figured out that she is big then small then big again, much different then Disney. I am very please. That’s all for today but I’m hopping to get to some good stuff soon.

What are your favorite lines/quotes? Copy them into your reading log/journal and explain why these passages caught your attention.

“the I like boys club” this one because it’s the club the sister has. They talk about boys, they look at boys and they date boys. This was brought to my attention because I know many girls including my sister who does thing like that.
“you’ll get one when your older” I have heard that so many times. First when My older sister lost her first tooth. It was you lose one when your older. Then when she got to go out on dates you’ll get to when your older. And so forth. In this book Jackie the younger sister is trying to be like her older sister. When Sharron the older sister gets to be in this club Jackie wants to be in it the only answer the mom gives is. You’ll get to when your older.
“ don’t compare yourself to your sister” I always compare myself to my sister. She’s a rodeo princess and she also has her bronze Cross in swimming she also is in horse shows and is in level 5 in piano and plays the Saxophone and so forth. And I tried to do some of those things and I’ve gotten close. Like I do horse shows and cattle race. I have my bronze medallion and I’m in level two piano I also play saxophone. But in the end are we the same? I don’t think we are. Don’t get me wrong I love her. She’s my best friends but where totally different people.
